countries alone are now graduating over 700 thousand EEs

The Great American Dream

significant role in this World, we will need to do the impossible. Turn back
the time 50 years, to “the great social contract” of the “GI-bill”, John
F Kennedy and the “National Defense Education Act” of 1958. This period, from
45 to 75, has also been called -
“The Golden Age of Capitalism”.
The question now is which part of our “Great American Dream” has turned into a “Nightmare”? --- The reason is not that we don’t have a “pure” Democracy, but a mixture of Oligarchy and Democracy, (Government strongly controlled by big business and rich families.) That has always been the mark of a well working democracy, beginning with the ancient Greek. It is not the part that says there should be human right and freedom for all. --- It’s the perversion of Capitalism which tells us that the most important part in life is to become filthy rich! --- This exclusive goal of greed, which is now being practiced by the CEOs of our industry, has also become the goal of every one of us. At one time there even was a popular song about this subject that began with, “Mothers don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys, let them become doctors and lawyers instead”. These multi million dollar rich CEOs have now turned our democracy into a total “oligarchy”, they are now running the Government without taking responsibility for the welfare of the country. --- Because we want them to do it and so do our elected representative.

What is this “Perversion” of
Capitalism as the Foundation of our Culture?
Let me first emphatically state that the
following is not an endorsement of the failed Communism of the past, and
neither is the author of this paragraph, Iain Banks, famous for his “Culture
novels”, of this persuasion, far from it!
Let me state here a
personal conviction that appears, right now, to be profoundly unfashionable;
which is that a planned economy can be more productive - and more morally
desirable - than one left to market forces. The market is a good example of
evolution in action; the try-everything-and-see-what-works approach. This might
provide a perfectly morally satisfactory resource-management system so long as
there was absolutely no question of any sentient creature ever being treated
purely as one of those resources. The market, for all its (profoundly inelegant)
complexities, remains a crude and essentially blind system, and is - without
the sort of drastic amendments liable to cripple the economic efficacy which is
its greatest claimed asset - intrinsically incapable of distinguishing between
simple non-use of matter resulting from processal
superfluity[surplus]and the acute,
prolonged and wide-spread suffering of conscious beings.
It is, arguably, in the elevation of this profoundly mechanistic (and in that
sense perversely innocent) [capitalistic] system to a position above all
other moral, philosophical and political values and considerations that
humankind displays most convincingly both its present intellectual [immaturity
and] - through grossly pursued selfishness (rather than the applied
hatred of others) a kind of synthetic evil.

organizations; --- this coming National disaster will strike all of the U.S.
just like the Hurricane Katrina struck the Golf coast, but this time it
will strike all cities and continue for may decades. --- I believe a lot of
people will be surprised about the similarities of these two events. No
electricity, no gas for heat, no fresh water, --- Foot riots in nearly all big
Cities, street gangs controlling the neighborhoods, fires being set and burning
out of control, the organization of “soup-kitchens” being delayed by lack of
founds, etc. etc. Driving on highways will only be possible in convoys with
armored trucks in front and back, and still there will be trouble, because
ambushes will be set with parts of the highways being mined. --- Since this
Catastrophe is nation-wide, there will not be enough National Guards or even
regular Army to keep order, and the Employees of Government organizations will
not come to work without being paid. ---- Don’t you think Bill that this will
solve your “misunderstandings” with the Government?

It can’t be prevented Bill, it’s the way the forces in this Kosmos are
arranged; You might say by “the process of Evolution”, for these forces are not
